The year is off to a fairly normal start. No big adventures or journeys. I've been very busy at work (which these days is a good thing) and a bit slack on taking pictures. So we don't have a lot to share.
Just after the new year, we enjoyed our now annual tradition of going the the Helgeson's for ginger bread housing construction. Continuing last years theme both I did a trailer. This year I featured a guy in his tighty-whiteys on the roof with a gun and beer. There is also a gramma in the front yard sunning herself with pink curlers in her hair.
Our neighbor Ken joined in and gave my trailer a nice neighbor... His features a dead dog and he is stealing cable from the telephone pole.
Heidi did a beautiful cabin with a nice front entrance and an attractive patio area.
This year the fire pit actually had a fire in it.
Next year I think I'll have to strike out towards a new style.
While the adults were battling each other the kids played/watched video games. Here is Andrew and Shanae mesmerized in the big comfy chair.
The weather has been very nice and we had a good citrus harvest this year. So the kids decided to raise some money for charity (wasn't my kid's idea, they wanted to keep the money but Shanae has an actually sense of community and sharing.) So we squeezed and boiled and added sugar and got some nice coinage to donate to an orphanage somewhere.
Ben has started a new sport, Lacrosse. He played in in PE and really enjoyed it and we have a youth league here in town, so he is trying it out. After just a few weeks he is showing some talent for it.
Andrew is becoming a bit fashion conscious and put this little number together to come to Ben's game. Bold use of color!
After the game he wanted to go get his big bother:
Another favorite weekend activity is baking. But somehow making cookies turned into making giant massive cookies and painting faces with the decorating spray. The cookies tasted horrible.
The other big family activity we had was a trip to the Renaissance Festival. As Ben pointed out upon entering, this doesn't look very renaissance, more like medieval with hippies and pirates. But if you suspend enough disbelief, it is fun. Andrew especially like the archery:
Sir Andrew the Bruce really got into it. Sword, tunic, and a little swagger as he wondered the streets. Here he is jousting.
