It has been a busy time over the last three months or so. Lots of scouting activity and we are spending as much time outside as we can before summer hits. The boys have been having a good time and are making new friends and experiences all the time.
Also, we are getting ready to have the inside of the house redone. To be honest, that is why I'm doing this blog today. I'll be packing the computer and a lot of other stuff up and boxes so that they can paint, tear up the carpet and tile, put in new flooring (engineered wood and tile), replace the doors and molding, and then redo the staircase. Not going to be fun! Hopefully I'll have pictures when it is all finished.
Anyhow, on to the first quarter of 2008. I may have the pictures out of order but it is close:
For a service project, Ben's den went to a wildlife reserve just south of downtown Phoenix and removed an invasive plane: Buffle Grass. They did a pretty good job of tearing those guys up.
Another winter ritual in Phoenix is to sell lemonade. This is Andrew with two friends trying to attract passers-by to purchase. Notice the attractive storefront display. Nothing says "cool and refreshing beverage" like an otter! Ben is up the street yelling at people to get more traffic.
Major life event. Ben went to his first rock concert. It was "Counting Crows" which is one of Heidi's favorite bands and was a free concert as part of the Super Bowl festivities. They had a great time and Ben learned a lot of bad words...
Andrew continues to be a goofball. Wonderfully funny and endlessly entertaining. No story behind this pictures. It just made me laugh.
Ben found some rocks to climb on during some hiking trip. I think the White Tank mountains.
Another scouting event was the pinewood derby, which by the way Ben won for his den! This is a picture of their friend Shanae who came along to watch and gave Andrew a better view.
Here is the den, with Ben holding his first place car: A Foot. Yes, his pinewood derby car was a large mostly green foot.
Did I say we did a lot of scouting things? This is a camping trip just outside of Phoenix (White Tank mountains) where Ben's den unveiled their new name and flag. Yes, they picked theFlaming Dragon Frogs as their name.
This is the campsite from the trip. I put it in here to show you that sometimes the desert is very green. This is not touched up. We had a lot of rain this year.
For school 's first quarter Ben's project was to design a product. His group did an electronic notebook. I thought it was pretty cool.
This picture shows Andrew in his cowboy boots. He is obsessed with wearing cowboy boots. He wears them every day. He cries if you try to get him to wear something that he can run in.
For easter we visited Grandpa Ed and did traditional easter things. The kids had a lot of fun making easter eggs then going on an easter egg hunt.
Andrew was proud of his egg!
Fortunately Grandpa Ed has a very small back yard, otherwise I'm not sure if they would have found all the eggs within a day.
Our most recent scouting camping trip was the Grand Canyon in April. Yes, the Grand Canyon is still cold in April. It was a family trip so Heidi and Andrew came along. Besides the cold, it was a lot of fun.
And yesterday, which brings us to the end of this posting, the girls across the street had their annual circus. This year they got a lot more serous and it was actually pretty good. Andrew and his friend TJ were clowns. For some reason they felt that it would be funny to come out with rackets and hit each other. Next year we'll work on a better routine.
Ben was a magician. He did about 4 tricks and they were petty good.That is all for now. One other note. Lou passed away last month after 14 lumpy and lovable years. He and Tisza are both greatly missed. Ben now has two Rats named Star and Kyree who help but they are not the same. After the renovation are done we will look for some new dogs.
